Travel information for foreign nationals
This page introduces principal scenic and cultural places to consider for foreign visitors. Inclusion does not guarantee admission or permits. We individually confirm available destinations according to travel dates, nationality, approved routes and local reception conditions.
A scenic area being generally open does not mean foreign nationals can enter. Canyon and border regions in particular require separate checks from ordinary Nyingchi sightseeing.
A turquoise lake enclosed by deep forest is one of Nyingchi’s signature views. Take time over its colors, overlapping mountains and quiet shores. Easily combined with a journey between Lhasa and Nyingchi, it deserves a schedule that lets you linger rather than rush past.
On clear days, enjoy reflected mountains; under cloud, the mist-wrapped lake has its own appeal. Walking and photography follow scenic-area guidance and the approved itinerary.
Basum Tso and its island
Tsodzong Monastery & the Lake Island
Basum Tso island and Tsodzong Monastery
The monastery on Basum Tso’s island unites lake scenery and local faith. Look beyond the natural beauty to appreciate a lake long cherished as a place of prayer.
We check monastery access and interior photography rules locally. Visits around Jieba and Cuogao lakeside villages can be discussed according to village reception and permit conditions.
Xiuba Ancient Fort
秀巴古堡
This historic site’s stone towers add a sense of history to a Nyang River journey. Architecture against mountain backdrops reveals a side of Kongpo different from its forests and lakes.
Various traditions explain its origins; we distinguish verifiable history from local stories. Respecting conservation, view the structures and surrounding scenery from designated visitor areas.
Taizhao Ancient Town
太昭古城
This Gongbo’gyamda stop invites reflection on journeys linking Lhasa and eastern Tibet. Rivers, bridges and settlements evoke roads once traveled by people and goods.
Visit for old transport routes and local life rather than expecting a vast fortress. Visits are adjusted to road conditions and local reception arrangements.
Around Bayi: peach blossom, valleys and monasteries
Gala Peach Blossom Village
嘎拉桃花村
This celebrated peach-blossom spot symbolizes spring in Nyingchi. Pale pink flowers meet mountains, fields and villages in a gentle landscape characteristic of the region. Alongside blossom photography, we give thoughtful attention to seasonal farming life.
Spring is usually the viewing season, but timing and abundance depend on each year’s temperatures and weather. Blossom-focused trips are timed after checking flowering reports and crowds.
Niyang River Valley
尼洋河风光带
This beautiful river accompanies the road from Gongbo’gyamda to Nyingchi. The current’s colors, mountain slopes, villages and farmland turn time in transit into time enjoying scenery.
River color and flow vary with the season. Photograph only from safe stopping points; do not enter riverbanks or managed areas without permission. Yani Wetland admission requires a separate check from ordinary roadside viewing.
Kading Valley & Tianfo Waterfall
Kading Gorge & Tianfo Waterfall
Cliffs, waterfalls and trees come together at this nature-viewing spot near Bayi. Maintained paths offer valley scenery and a sense of Nyingchi’s moist forests.
Stories about the rock formations also reveal local ways of understanding the landscape. Paths can become slippery after rain, so walking areas depend on conditions that day.
Giant Cypress Grove & Cypress King Park
世界柏树王园林
Giant cypresses spread their branches in a grove that evokes the passage of centuries. It offers a perspective on Nyingchi’s nature and people’s respect for trees different from snow peaks and glaciers.
Protect ancient roots and soil: stay on designated paths without crossing fences or climbing trees. Combine this with nearby monasteries and valleys for an unhurried half-day around Bayi.
Lamaling Monastery
喇嘛岭寺
One of Nyingchi’s principal Tibetan Buddhist monasteries rests among green hills. Colorful architecture harmonizes with the forest, reflecting Kongpo’s landscape where nature and prayer are close at hand.
Respect the monastery’s daily life as well as its architectural beauty. Follow opening times, ceremonies and interior access arrangements, photographing only where permitted.
Sejila and Lulang: snow peaks, forest seas and village life
Namcha Barwa
南迦巴瓦峰
This sharp 7,782m peak is an emblematic snow mountain of southeastern Tibet. Its snowy summit beyond green forest and deep valleys leaves a different impression from mountains viewed across dry plateau.
Cloud often hides the mountain, so summit or sunset views cannot be promised. We check foreign visitors’ approved access and guide you from permitted viewpoints, such as those toward Sejila.
Sejila Pass
色季拉山口
This viewpoint lies on the mountain road between Bayi and Lulang. Forested slopes and distant ridges spread out before you; favorable weather may reveal mountains toward Namcha Barwa.
The route climbs above town, with changing winds and temperatures. Photograph in short sessions from safe viewpoints and adjust your stay to your condition and the roads.
Lulang Forest
鲁朗林海
Conifer forests cover mountains like waves in a landscape of characteristic Nyingchi green. Drifting mist emphasizes the valleys’ depth; clear days bring contrasts of forest, sky and snow peaks.
Combine broad forest views with time in towns and villages to bring this land closer. To protect nature, itineraries do not include unrestricted entry deep into the forest.
Lulang Town & Tashigang Village
Lulang town and Tashigang Village
Forests, meadows, farmland and Tibetan houses form a continuous landscape here. Look beyond viewpoints to everyday Nyingchi; we can discuss journeys that include local food culture and village scenery.
Visits to Tashigang and other villages follow the day’s reception arrangements and approved routes. Ask permission before photographing houses or people, and do not enter fields or living spaces uninvited.
Bomi: peach valleys, lakes, forests and glaciers
Forests and scenes of prayer in Bomi’s Zhuolong Valley
Bomi Peach Blossom Valley & Villages
Bomi Peach Blossom Valley and the Qingduo area
In spring, peach blossoms color Bomi’s valley villages and farmland. Areas such as Peach Blossom Valley toward Qingduo offer themes for photography journeys combining flowers, mountains and everyday life.
Blossom timing differs by place and year. The image shows related scenery in the Bomi region, not peach trees in full bloom. Destinations are selected after checking flowers, distances and foreign visitors’ passage conditions.
Watersides and mountains near Guxiang Village
Around Guxiang & Galang Lakes
Guxiang Lake & Galang Lake
West of Bomi lies an area of beautiful watersides, mountains and villages. Guxiang and Galang lakes each deserve a leisurely stop to enjoy their shores and settlements.
Around Galang Village, wetlands and local history also reward attention. The photograph shows scenery near Guxiang Village. Check water levels, lakeside paths and accessible areas locally; do not enter wetlands without permission.
Forests and snow peaks in Bomi’s Zhuolong Valley (related scenery)
Gangyun Spruce Forest & Bomi Woodlands
Gangyun Forest and the area around Baka Village
Tall conifers and green forest floors offer walks immersed in Bomi’s rich woodlands. Gangyun Forest and Baka Village’s surroundings are possibilities for time among trees rather than snow-mountain viewpoints.
The photograph shows related scenery in Bomi’s Zhuolong Valley. Check forest entrances, path conditions and foreign visitor reception in advance; walking areas are chosen to suit your available time and preferences.
Midui Glacier
米堆冰川
In eastern Bomi, ice-covered mountains, forested valleys and foothill villages meet in a glacier landscape. Rather than isolating the ice, this place reveals natural connections from mountain to village.
View from open walking paths and viewpoints, without unrestricted approaches onto the ice or to the glacier’s snout. The journey from Nyingchi town is long, so allow ample days and flexibility for road conditions.
The canyon and surroundings: check foreign visitor access individually
Satellite image showing the canyon’s terrain
Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon
雅鲁藏布大峡谷
The Yarlung Tsangpo makes a great bend here, cutting deep valleys between snow mountains and forest. Access conditions differ greatly between visitor sites and the remote interior.
Published information about access for foreign nationals differs, so we confirm permitted scenic areas and sections with the relevant authorities before arranging visits.General ticket sales or travel articles alone do not establish that access can be arranged.

Sosong Village & the Pai Area
Sosong Village & Pai Town
This canyon-side area is known for Namcha Barwa views and spring blossoms. Travelers interested in combining time watching the mountain with village scenery often ask us about visiting.
