General questions

When should I book?

Contact us as soon as your dates are known, allowing time for permits, trains and hotels. Ngari, multi-region trips and holidays need extra preparation; last-minute availability is not guaranteed.

Confirm meeting and finishing points, operating conditions and quote validity before booking non-refundable transport.

What is included in the price?

The quote and itinerary identify included guides, vehicles, accommodation, meals, admissions, paperwork and transport tickets. Four-star hotels or all meals are not assumed on every route.

Check single-room supplements, free meals, additional transfers, personal expenses, insurance and tipping arrangements before agreement. Currency conversions are indicative.

Can I change or cancel?

Changes and cancellations follow the terms in your booking documents and those of airlines, railways, hotels and other suppliers. Another agency’s cancellation policy is not our policy.

If weather, access or permits change, discuss alternatives and any charges or refunds. Read the written conditions before payment.

Entry & permits

入国・入域手続き
Entry & permits

Are entry permission and Tibet permits the same?

No. Chinese visa or visa-free eligibility depends on nationality, documents, purpose and length of stay. Check official requirements at booking and again before departure, especially for travel from 2027 onward.

Foreign visitors to the Tibet Autonomous Region need advance arrangements and permits through a specialist agency. Visa-free entry to China does not remove Tibet permit requirements.

Which documents should I carry?

Carry the original valid passport or identity document used for reservations. Names and numbers must match tickets, hotels and applications. Visa, stay-status and permit-copy requirements are checked for your route.

Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign-passport travellers use different documents. Tell us the document type first. Keep backups separately and do not upload identity images through public forms.

Does Qinghai require a Tibet permit?

Qinghai is administratively separate from the Tibet Autonomous Region, so Tibet permit requirements are not applied automatically. Individual monasteries, reserves, counties and roads may still have access restrictions.

Distinguish travel within Qinghai from taking the train onward to Lhasa, where Tibet entry arrangements must be checked separately. Local restrictions override existing reservations.

Altitude & health

高原の健康と行動
Altitude & health

How should I plan for altitude?

Rest after arrival and avoid rapid ascent and strenuous exertion. Fitness does not prevent altitude illness, and arriving by train does not guarantee protection.

Check overnight elevations as well as high passes: Xining, Lhasa, Qinghai Lake, Everest and Ngari differ greatly. Do not continue higher while unwell.

What if I develop headache or nausea?

Report headache, nausea or unusual fatigue promptly, stop activity and seek medical advice. Do not ascend while symptomatic; worsening despite rest requires descent and medical assessment.

Breathlessness at rest, confusion or inability to walk steadily are emergency signs. Contact emergency care and arrange safe descent; do not rely on portable oxygen to continue the itinerary.

What about medical conditions, medicines and children?

Discuss your itinerary and sleeping elevations with a clinician if you have heart or lung disease, are pregnant, have medical concerns or are travelling with children. The agency cannot determine medical fitness or prescribe medicines.

Bring sufficient regular medication in original packaging with prescription information, checking import rules for each medicine. Avoid alcohol on arrival and maintain normal hydration rather than forcing excessive water.

Seasons & packing

When is the best season?

Choose by region and purpose: grasslands, flowers, religious events and mountain views favour different conditions. Flowering, snow and cloud cover vary each year; photographs do not guarantee the same view.

High passes, lakesides and nights can be cold even in summer. Rain, rockfall, flooding, snow and ice may affect access. Recheck forecasts and roads shortly before travel.

What should I pack?

Bring warm layers, a windproof and waterproof outer layer and familiar shoes with good grip. Add a hat, sunglasses, sun protection, moisturiser, lip balm and gloves, with extra insulation for your route.

Keep drinks, snacks, medicines, tissues, hygiene items, chargers and required documents in a day bag. Winter mountain trips and pilgrimage walks need a separate equipment review.

Rail, roads & flights

Rail, roads & flights

What matters when booking and boarding the train?

China’s railway uses real-name tickets: bring the original valid document used to book. Foreign-passport verification may be required through 12306. Early requests do not guarantee a train, soft sleeper or lower berth.

Allow time for security and document checks, including Tibet entry documents when travelling to Lhasa. Confirm compartment arrangements, shared facilities, food and luggage space for your train.

How should I plan road travel and flight connections?

Distances alone do not predict plateau journey times. Allow for checks, roadworks, passes, weather and breaks. Avoid pressured night driving or long sightseeing on arrival; wear seat belts and stop safely for photos.

Build a buffer or overnight stay before important flights and verify airports and terminals. Driving, cycling and motorcycle trips require separate eligibility checks; do not assume an international permit is sufficient.

What about baggage and batteries?

Check current airline and departure-airport rules for weight, quantities, liquids, power banks and oxygen-related equipment. Train and air restrictions differ.

Avoid damaged, unlabelled or non-compliant batteries. Obtain airline approval in advance for necessary medical equipment; agency agreement does not replace carrier authorisation.

Stays, food & water

What does four-star-class accommodation mean?

City hotels can be discussed at a four-star-class standard, but official star certification and agency facility assessments are not identical. Confirm the planned hotel, room, breakfast, heating, hot water, lift and passport registration.

Equivalent facilities may not exist around Everest, Ngari, remote Qinghai or pilgrimage routes. Basic lodges, shared toilets or rooms and service interruptions are explained in advance; not every night is four-star.

Do foreign visitors need accommodation registration?

Hotels register foreign guests: present the required original documents at check-in and confirm registration is completed.

For stays in homes or other non-hotel accommodation, the guest or host generally must register with public security within 24 hours of arrival. Check official local channels for the procedure.

What about food, water and allergies?

Meals can combine Tibetan and Chinese cuisine, with spice and vegetarian preferences discussed in advance. Quotes specify included and free meals. Remote areas offer fewer ingredients, restaurants and opening hours.

Choose sealed water or thoroughly boiled drinks and practise hand hygiene. Disclose allergies in writing before departure; complete avoidance and cross-contact control may not be possible.

Money, phones & time

Which payment methods should I prepare?

Have several options: RMB cash, a suitable bank card and, where supported, Alipay or Weixin Pay. Check overseas-card linking, fees and identity verification with each provider before travel.

Remote areas may have limited connectivity, ATMs or overseas-card acceptance. Carry small notes separately and verify recipients and amounts. USD or JPY reference prices do not mean local shops accept those currencies.

What about phones, power and time zones?

In mainland China, access to overseas social and messaging services such as LINE, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube is restricted on ordinary local networks and hotel Wi-Fi. Additional connectivity such as a VPN may be needed for restricted services, but VPN use is regulated and neither connection nor app availability is guaranteed. Before departure, ask your provider about communication options compliant with local rules and support for the apps you need.

Ask your provider about mainland coverage, data, calls and verification texts. Save maps, hotel addresses, tickets and emergency contacts offline; mountains can have no signal.

China uses UTC+8, one hour behind Japan. Check transport times in local time. Domestic supply is normally 220V, 50Hz: check device ratings and plug shapes and bring an appropriate adapter.

Arrange an alternative such as ordinary calls or SMS for contacting family and our team, and keep contact details and essential documents available offline.

Culture & photography

Culture & photography

What etiquette should I follow in monasteries?

Dress modestly, speak quietly and follow each monastery’s rules on hats, shoes and photography. Do not touch statues, scriptures, offerings or ritual objects, or interrupt worship.

Circumambulation direction can vary by tradition and location, so follow local guidance. Ask before photographing people; donations are voluntary. Rituals and opening schedules can affect visits.

What should I know about photography and drones?

Respect no-photography signs and avoid photographing military sites and checkpoints. Paying does not automatically permit temple photography. Ask before photographing people, homes, workshops or livestock.

Check Chinese drone registration, operating rules and local flight restrictions before travel. Do not fly where permission is unclear. Do not enter homes or grazing land uninvited; agree charges for photography or riding beforehand.

Lakes & remote regions

湖・草原・遠隔地
Lakes & remote regions

How should I behave at lakes, salt flats and grasslands?

Do not assume swimming or entering sacred lakes is acceptable; follow signs and local custom. At Qinghai salt lakes, use designated paths and open areas rather than salt crusts, mud or closed zones.

Do not walk onto frozen lakes. Keep away from wildlife, yaks and herding dogs and do not feed them. Remove your litter and leave plants, stones and religious objects undisturbed.

What is different about Everest, Kailash and Ngari?

Elevation, distances, medical access and accommodation differ greatly from city travel. The Everest visitor area is not necessarily the mountaineering base camp; confirm the actual access area.

Separate vehicle-based Kailash viewing from the walking kora. Review walking days, passes, basic lodging and withdrawal plans. Completion must not take priority over health, and mountain visibility depends on weather.

What is specific to touring Qinghai?

Do not generalise from Xining city: check elevations, distances and facilities around Qinghai Lake, Qilian, Rebgong, Yushu, Golog and Qaidam separately. Qinghai is not uniformly low altitude.

Allow for lakeside winds, strong sun, changing mountain weather and long gaps between fuel, meals or connectivity in remote areas. Respect reserve access and never enter railway tracks or traffic lanes for photos.

Insurance & emergencies

What should I check in my insurance?

Ask the insurer specifically about destinations, maximum altitude, pilgrimage walking, road journeys and pre-existing conditions. Check evacuation, assistance and return-travel changes as well as medical bills.

The agency cannot guarantee rescue methods, response times or helicopters. Keep policy and 24-hour assistance details offline and prepare for possible upfront medical payment.

Who do I contact in an emergency?

In mainland China call 120 for ambulance, 110 for police and 119 for fire. Do not wait only for an agency response when danger is immediate. Give symptoms, location and numbers involved; have the hotel name or location available in Chinese.

Our China contact is +86 132-9891-4222 and overseas contact +81 80-9078-0875. These are not emergency-service numbers. Agree communication plans before entering areas without coverage.

Payment & final checks

How do I verify bank-transfer details?

Match the company, account holder, bank, account number, currency and amount against your formal quote, agreement and invoice. Confirm transfer fees and the amount expected to arrive.

We hold the company account information and provide current remittance instructions individually. Verify unexpected account changes or third-party account names by calling our established number before transferring.

What should I check just before departure?

Review identity documents, visa and permits, insurance, tickets, planned hotels, contacts, medicines, equipment and paid or outstanding costs. Confirm meeting dates and times in China local time.

Weather, roads, trains and site access can change at short notice. Keep flexibility, follow current instructions and discuss health concerns before departure.
