Nyingchi → Lulang → Basum Tso → Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon → Lhasa → Yamdrok → Shigatse → Everest Base Camp → Siling Tso → Bange → Namtso → Lhasa
Planning season: May–October. Autumn colour varies with weather and elevation. Winter and snow conditions require an individual feasibility review.
Conditional planning route through frontier or remote areas. Confirm the entire road, visitor reception and overnight bases before booking. Replace unapproved sections or extend the itinerary where needed.
Meet at the airport or agreed point and settle into a Nyingchi hotel. Prioritise rest, with only an optional gentle walk in an open Niyang River area if suitable. Review dietary needs, health and the onward road plan with your guide.
Travel via open Sejila viewpoints to Lulang for forests, grassland and a gentle village walk. Namcha Barwa visibility is weather-dependent. Ask permission before photographing residents or homes, then return to Nyingchi for the night.
Explore the open shores and forest setting of Basum Tso. A Xincuo-area walk is an optional request subject to confirmed road, visitor and trail conditions, with a modest turnaround distance. If it cannot be arranged, use the normal lakeside walking areas instead.
Explore open visitor areas of the Yarlung Tsangpo canyon and villages around Nyingchi. Namcha Barwa views depend on visibility. Use designated paths and viewing facilities, keeping away from unsafe riverbanks and closed areas. Leave time to return to the hotel before evening.
Return towards Nyingchi and, if time and opening allow, visit Basum Tso’s authorised area before continuing to Lhasa. This is a long transfer. Shorten or omit the lake stop, or add a night if conditions require; rest after reaching Lhasa.
Visit the Potala Palace at the reserved time, exploring its history and architecture. Rest around the park below and view the palace exterior. Walk through Barkhor in the afternoon to understand the old town and its living traditions. Follow on-site visit arrangements.
Leave early for permitted Yamdrok viewpoints, then continue via Gyantse to Shigatse with breaks. A Pelkor Chode visit depends on arrival time and opening conditions. This is a long driving day, so arrival and rest take priority.
Travel via Lhatse and Tingri toward Everest, allowing time for document checks and breaks. Stop at authorized viewpoints when weather permits. Confirm the accessible visitor area, shuttle arrangements and overnight location in advance; mountaineering camp access is not promised.
If weather and the overnight location allow, enjoy the early light toward Everest. Return to Shigatse after breakfast with meal and rest breaks. Keep the evening light. Sunrise and mountain visibility depend on conditions.
Travel via the Siling Tso area towards Bange, stopping at permitted lake viewpoints. Stay on designated roads in protected areas and keep away from wetlands and nesting birds. Water colour and wildlife sightings vary with weather and season. Confirm the following day’s Namtso access with the local team.
Keep a rest and road buffer in Bange after the northern plateau stage. Use it for delays or wellbeing needs; an unused buffer does not imply an additional distant excursion. Reconfirm the next day’s Namtso access and return arrangements.
Visit the confirmed open part of Namtso and return to Lhasa as roads allow. North-shore side trips such as Shengxiang Tianmen require separate access confirmation; the standard plan uses permitted lake shores. Allow for delays and do not connect this long road day with a departing flight or train.
Check out and transfer for your confirmed flight or train. Check luggage, documents and tickets. Agree the transfer window, endpoints and any extra waiting service in writing.
