Lhasa → Namtso → Yamdrok → Shigatse → Everest Base Camp → Lhasa → Basum Tso → Nyingchi → Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon
Planning season: May–October. Autumn colour varies with weather and elevation. Winter and snow conditions require an individual feasibility review.
Conditional planning route through frontier or remote areas. Confirm the entire road, visitor reception and overnight bases before booking. Replace unapproved sections or extend the itinerary where needed.
Meet your transfer from the confirmed flight or train and check in. Review the coming days with the team. Keep the day free of demanding visits; a short walk near the hotel is optional if you feel comfortable.
Visit the Potala Palace at the reserved time, exploring its history and architecture. Rest around the park below and view the palace exterior. Walk through Barkhor in the afternoon to understand the old town and its living traditions. Follow on-site visit arrangements.
After sufficient time in Lhasa, make a day trip to the permitted area of Namtso, with brief pass stops and gentle lakeside walking. Road conditions and personal wellbeing determine whether the trip proceeds. If unsuitable, discuss a less demanding visit around Lhasa rather than pressing on to the lake.
Leave early for permitted Yamdrok viewpoints, then continue via Gyantse to Shigatse with breaks. A Pelkor Chode visit depends on arrival time and opening conditions. This is a long driving day, so arrival and rest take priority.
Travel via Lhatse and Tingri toward Everest, allowing time for document checks and breaks. Stop at authorized viewpoints when weather permits. Confirm the accessible visitor area, shuttle arrangements and overnight location in advance; mountaineering camp access is not promised.
If weather and the overnight location allow, enjoy the early light toward Everest. Return to Shigatse after breakfast with meal and rest breaks. Keep the evening light. Sunrise and mountain visibility depend on conditions.
Visit Tashilhunpo to explore Tsang’s monastic culture and architecture. Drive back to Lhasa with lunch and rest stops. Settle into the hotel with time to rest or prepare for the next stage.
Head east from Lhasa into forested valleys, visiting Basum Tso by open paths and required scenic-area transport. Introduce the lake and island-temple traditions before continuing to Nyingchi. Shorten the lake visit if travel takes longer than planned. At Basum Tso, allow a gentle walk in the open lakeside area if time and wellbeing permit; the Xincuo side route requires separate confirmation.
Explore open visitor areas of the Yarlung Tsangpo canyon and villages around Nyingchi. Namcha Barwa views depend on visibility. Use designated paths and viewing facilities, keeping away from unsafe riverbanks and closed areas. Leave time to return to the hotel before evening.
Transfer for your confirmed flight or train from Nyingchi. Confirm breakfast separately for an early departure, and avoid connecting a flight directly after an uncertain mountain-road arrival. Extra nights can be discussed before booking.
