Detailed 16-day itinerary
DAY 1
Arrive in Lhasa: transfer and rest
Meet your transfer from the confirmed flight or train and check in. Review the coming days with the team. Keep the day free of demanding visits; a short walk near the hotel is optional if you feel comfortable.
Overnight: Lhasa.
DAY 2
Potala Palace, park and Barkhor
Visit the Potala Palace at the reserved time, exploring its history and architecture. Rest around the park below and view the palace exterior. Walk through Barkhor in the afternoon to understand the old town and its living traditions. Follow on-site visit arrangements.
Overnight: Lhasa.
DAY 3
Drepung and Sera monasteries
Explore Drepung’s monastery layout and traditions of Buddhist learning. After a lunch break, visit Sera. Observe debate only if it is taking place and open to visitors; respect monastic study and photography instructions.
Overnight: Lhasa.
DAY 4
Lhasa, Yamdrok, Gyantse and Shigatse
Leave early for permitted Yamdrok viewpoints, then continue via Gyantse to Shigatse with breaks. A Pelkor Chode visit depends on arrival time and opening conditions. This is a long driving day, so arrival and rest take priority.
Overnight: Shigatse.
DAY 5
Shigatse to Tingri and the Everest area
Travel via Lhatse and Tingri toward Everest, allowing time for document checks and breaks. Stop at authorized viewpoints when weather permits. Confirm the accessible visitor area, shuttle arrangements and overnight location in advance; mountaineering camp access is not promised.
Overnight: Everest area or Tingri, subject to confirmed lodging.
DAY 6
Everest / Tingri to Saga
Continue across the plateau to Saga, stopping only where permitted. Allow time for meals, checks and rest before the next westward stage.
Overnight: Saga.
DAY 7
Saga, Manasarovar and Darchen
Travel west and visit the open shores of Manasarovar, then settle in Darchen. Review walking arrangements, luggage storage and support needs. Lake immersion and unauthorized ceremonies are not included.
Overnight: Darchen.
DAY 8
Darchen preparation day
Rest and review equipment, weather, lodging and turnaround plans. Porters, horses and support vehicles require separate availability and price confirmation. Agree arrangements for non-walkers.
Overnight: Darchen.
DAY 9
Kora day 1: Darchen to Dirapuk
Transfer to the agreed trailhead and walk along the valley toward Dirapuk. A typical planning stage is around 20 km, varying with shuttle points. Prepare trail supplies and confirm simple lodging and meals in advance.
Overnight: Simple lodging near Dirapuk.
DAY 10
Kora day 2: Dolma La to Zutulpuk
Start early for Dolma La and continue toward Zutulpuk under the guide’s direction. This is the most demanding stage, commonly over 20 km with steep, high-altitude sections. Progress depends on weather, access and individual wellbeing.
Overnight: Simple lodging near Zutulpuk.
DAY 11
Kora day 3: return to Darchen
Finish the valley walk and transfer from the agreed pickup point to Darchen. A typical stage is around 10 km or more, depending on endpoints. Keep the afternoon for recovery and packing rather than another long drive.
Overnight: Darchen.
DAY 12
Darchen to Saga
Return east to Saga with regular breaks, allowing for fatigue following the kora.
Overnight: Saga.
DAY 13
Saga to Shigatse
Drive back to Shigatse with meal and rest stops. Keep the evening for rest after the long journey.
Overnight: Shigatse.
DAY 14
Tashilhunpo and return to Lhasa
Visit Tashilhunpo to explore Tsang’s monastic culture and architecture. Drive back to Lhasa with lunch and rest stops. Settle into the hotel with time to rest or prepare for the next stage.
Overnight: Lhasa.
DAY 15
Lhasa buffer and cultural time
Keep a buffer for earlier transport or weather changes. If unused, discuss old-town walking, photography or cultural exchanges, agreeing activities and costs first. Household and workshop visits require host consent.
Overnight: Lhasa.
DAY 16
Depart Lhasa
Check out and transfer for your confirmed flight or train. Check luggage, documents and tickets. Agree the transfer window, endpoints and any extra waiting service in writing.
Overnight: None, tour ends.
